The Ed Panarello Scholarship Fund Program

The Maritime Port Council of Greater New York and Vicinity is pleased to be able to offer two scholarship awards in the amount of two-thousand ($2000.00) dollars per scholarship to member's dependents again this year.

We believe that is is important for all of us in the labor movement to invest in our family's future.

The instructions and eligibility requirements are described in each booklet. The deadline to apply is June 1st.

Empire Plan Prescription Drug Program

As you may be aware, United Healthcare began administering the Empire Plan Prescription Drug Program effective January 1, 2008. They have partnered with Medco Health Solutions, Inc. to provide pharmaceutical services. It has come to our attention that some members are having difficulty when utilizing this benefit.

In December of 2007, and again in January of this year, the Department of Civil Service sent information to Empire Plan participants that addressed this change and gave some practical advice for accessing this benefit. Enclosed is a copy of the Empire Plan Report issued in December 2007 outlining the change.

Employees should pay particular attention to the last page, under the caption, "Your First Visit to a Participating Pharmacy after January 1, 2008", which identifies the Rx Group number and Bank Identication Number (BIN) needed to fill prescriptions.

Once again we are having our Annual Scholarship Program and are asking you to fill out the application for your son or daughter. The qualifications for you to apply are as follows:

- They must be a matriculated student on a full time basis.
- They must be attending college for the semesters of 2007.
- Proof of admission must be attached with the application.

The drawing will be held at our next membership meeting in April.

All applications must be in our office no later than June 1, 2008.
