Annual Scholarship Drive
Once again, due to the success our annual golf outing and dinner dance, we are pleased to announce our Annual Scholarship Drive. We encourage all members who have children attending college to participate.
To qualify for the drawing, applicants must:
- Be a matriculated full time student.
- Be attending college for the fall 2009/spring 2010 semesters
- Submit proof of enrollment for this period.
The drawing will be held at the February delegates meeting.
All applications must be postmarked no later than February 1, 2010.

Day Care Reimbursement Fund
Funds for the reimbursement of day care expenses are now available. These funds shall be used to reimburse members who incur ongoing day care expenses for dependent children UNDER THE AGE OF 13 or a DISABLED CHILD OF ANY AGE. Members will be reimbursed in a single lump sum payment of approved applications for the applicable fiscal year. The fiscal period covered under this agreement shall commence April 1, 2009 and end March 31, 2010.
To be considered for reimbursement, you must complete the appropriate claim form and provide some form of expense verification. This can include, but is not limited to copies of receipts, invoices, cancelled checks, provider statements, notarized letters, etc. Also include the provider's social security or tax identification number. You must submit your application together with all necessary documentation to: Maloney Associates, Inc., 211 Broadway, Lynbrook, NY 11563. All applications MUST be received or postmarked by March 19, 2010. LATE OR INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED!
The total amount of funds available will be divided among the approved applications from active members in good standing. You must be an active SCOA member on the application deadline date to be eligible for reimbursement. Court Officer Trainees must have completed six months of employment from date of hire to be eligible for this benefit and only expenses incurred after the six month period will be considered. All eligible dependents must be children for whom you are the legal guardian.

Additional Social Security for Military Service

Defense Appropriations Act
Anyone who has had active duty service prior to January, 2002 qualifies for a higher social security payment. If you served in an active duty capacity from 1940 through 2001 you qualify for up to $1200 per year of earnings credit at time of application which can make a substantial difference in your monthly social security payments upon you retirement.
You must bring your DD-214 to the Social Security Office. You must ask for this benefit to receive it. It will not be paid automatically. For more information, please visit the Social Security web site: www.socialsecurity.gov/pubs/10017.html or www.socialsecurity.gov/retire2/military.htm#2002.
You do not have to wait until you retire to apply for this credit. Please note that this benefit was discontinued in January, 2002.
